DEVELOPMENT

At each layer of a Design there is an Eco-alternative to traditional joinery techniques available; some options are summarized following;

MATERIALS

  1. Use of Plantation Hoop and Radiata Plywood for carcass construction and E0 melamine face material which comes from sustainably managed forest.
  2. To protect surfaces and allow for easy cleaning use Water-based lacquer instead of Polyurethane based products. The reduction of VOC [volatile organic compound] levels in Water-based products improves air quality and reduces household pollution by eliminating the ongoing solvent and formaldehyde emissions given off from Polyurethane based products more commonly used as sealants.
  3. Board material used has an E0 rating: the lowest formaldehyde emission rating possible.
  4. Veneer Board is a reasonably sustainable option as we have preferred suppliers who manufacture veneers which are harvested from managed plantations.
  5. Recycled Timber is used and encouraged.
  6. Certain laminate finishes are available in E0 finish, however many products are yet to meet these standards.

DESIGN

  1. Design with sustainable materials in mind
  2. Design with construction that is sustainable e.g. use of Plywood instead of melamine for carcass construction.
  3. Use recycled material where possible.
  4. We encourage you to reuse components of your kitchen where possible
  5. Passive Solar Design makes use of natural light to best heat and cool a room.

THINGS WE DO

  1. Our packaging is re-cycled and then reused on the next job
  2. Sawdust from solid timber is gathered and taken to the Collingwood Children’s farm
  3. We encourage our staff to commute to and from work by bicycle, public transport or by car pooling.
  4. All our office paper is re-cycled.
  5. Working locally – 80% of our work is within a 5km radius
  6. We use local suppliers
