Cantilever Interiors Very Own Charlie & Travis feature on The Home Team
We were delighted to recently feature on Channel 10’s The Home Team.
The Home Team is one of channel 10’s most popular home renovation lifestyle shows. Hosted by Leah McLeod, who has an extensive media career and is passionate about renovation and design. Her co-host Anthony Scott, an award winning landscaper and designer, is the principal of his own successful Landscape business.
Together they bring the best and latest in the design and lifestyle industry to you. We were thrilled when they asked us to feature in an upcoming episode and excited to have the opportunity to introduce Leah to Cantilever Interiors kitchen systems.

Cantilever Interiors kitchens are very much inspired by our own Travis and Charlie’s backgrounds as furniture designers. As the boys explain, they were both working as furniture designers at a studio in Brunswick, Melbourne when they (somehow) drifted into making joinery and kitchens together, applying the same principles of furniture making – function, aesthetics, materials and craftsmanship – and finding inspiration in art, film and photography.
Now as kitchen designers, Charlie and Travis mix surfaces, colours, shapes and textures to create joinery that still looks and feels like furniture, which is what makes our kitchens so successful. As Charlie says, “you don’t know how good a kitchen is until you’ve used a bad one. And when you’ve used a bad one you know how good a good one is.”
Charlie and Travis took Leah on a tour of our flagship kitchen, K2, and she was (of course) impressed by our careful attention to the fine details: wood-grain surfaces, ingenious touch-point controls, open shelving and shadow lines in cabinetry. These features not only have warmth and detail but can create a humanistic connection in what is very much a functional environment.
The K2 Kitchen System
Reactions like Leah’s are why we love making kitchens, so Charlie and Travis took her through our kitchen-making process. And it always begins the same way. As we walk into a space with fresh eyes we begin to visualise the opportunities and ask that all-important question: how will the space be used. Then taking light, size and layout into account, we define the requirements and create a functional design.
Charlie and Travis also treated Leah to a tour of K3 where Charlie explained how we achieved the retro feel without it being dated. Again, it’s all down to the genius of our former furniture makers and their knowledge of materials and eye for design. For example, laminate has been used because it’s not only hardwearing and durable, but it has a real nostalgic feel. However, to update the look we created cut-outs instead of handles, and exposed the ply substrate layers underneath the laminate to reveals its texture and intricacy.
The K3 Kitchen System
Leah then got the grand behind-the-scenes tour of our workshop where our kitchen visions become reality - “where the magic happens.” It’s super organised, super clean and super well maintained to reflect the high-quality kitchens we work so hard to deliver. And as Charlie and Travis explain, we fully assemble all our kitchens with appliances in our workshop to ensure everything is absolutely perfect before we let it go.
As Leah said, we’ve “taken bespoke to a whole new level.” Leah, we’d love to have you back any time.
